A little history.
Athenic was founded by a group of crypto-native builders and legal engineers who were tired of the limitations of traditional crypto IRAs. Our team includes contributors from Aragon, LexDAO, and other decentralized communities committed to user sovereignty. After a previous startup exit in 2021, we turned our focus to the DeFi x regulatory intersection — and started building the retirement platform we wanted to use ourselves. The result is Athenic: a self-custodial, tax-advantaged IRA product built from the ground up for crypto users. We launched the alpha in 2024, rolled out private beta in early 2025, and opened access later that year. We believe the future of finance is permissionless — and your retirement accounts should be too.
